Hi Scoot, wondering if it`s Black Horehound? After my previous ids I`d wait for someone else to have a look

Not sure Scoot but it has very nettle like leaves. I looked up Pam's ID and it looks a strong possibility.

Hi Scoot - I'm pretty sure your plant is Hedge Woundwort - Stachys sylvatica.

Yes , i was thinking the same as Mike . I looked hard at Audrey's suggestion and although it's very similar there was something not quite right . We see a lot of Hedge Woundwort at home

Mike, it's the white form of Common Stork's-bill - Erodium cicutarium, funnily enough I found some on Tiree today, all white apart from one pink flower right in the middle of the group. The leaves look as though they haven't quite opened out fully, or have shrivelled up a bit if it's as hot where you found it as it is here!

Thanks Audrey! Before I saw your reply, I was just looking through my books again and came across Sticky Storksbill which is apparently found in the location and habitat I found mine. That also has a pale/white version - so I'm a bit unsure now which it is. My photos show the leaves to be quite hairy. Do you have any photos of a white Common one for comparison?

This is something very similar that we saw in Norfolk last week so it may well have answered a query i might have had.

Mike, I'm just back from Tiree and getting caught up with all sorts of things. I do have some photos of the White Stork's-bill I found on Tiree and I think I have some from previous finds as well. I'll look them out and post them by tomorrow.

OK, here are a couple of the Common Stork's-bill photos. According to Francis Rose most flowers in Common are more than 10mm across, often unequal, whilst in Sticky, they are mostly less than 10mm across and equal. The key difference is in the fruits, in Common they are 5.0 - 6.5mm long with a large rimmed pit at the apex whilst in Sticky they are less than 5mm long with a tiny rimless pit at the apex.

Not one I've ever seen personally Dave, but I saw a photo on Facebook yesterday and the habitat sounds right. Hound's-tongue - Cynoglossum officinale
