What do you all think about this years Autumnwatch coming from the US? There is so much happening here in autumn I think it is a shame they have chosen to do that, not for me this year I think www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-45332214

I'm not too sure either Jan. I get the impression that the majority of people who watch the show might not connect with the wildlife that the programme will be focusing on and i don't think that it will feel the same watching things like Chipmunks, White-tailed Deer, Raccoon, Eastern Fox Squirrel and Timber Rattlesnake (possibly!), great as they are and i have been out there and seen the above at that time of year, but most people will never see them and therefore won't be overly bothered.
At least if they mention a site in the UK where you could see Otter, or Badger or Golden eagle etc, then at least you have a chance of being able to see them.
I could be well off the mark, and i'm sure the programme will have it's great filming and photography standards, but something about it doesn't immediatley strike me as 'oh, that sounds well worth watching' and it might well get a big thumbs down...only time will tell i suppose.

Dave another thing I noticed it is a week long show so I think watching it every night as you say with the likes of Chipmunks and things we won't be seeing here is not very appealing.
Not the same as the onset ofautumn here.

It certainly doesn't have the same appeal for me but I shall watch before judging.

I agree with all you both have said .... what a shame when we have so much here to offer It'll end up like a Travel programme , and a competition as to the best Autumnal shots ...... we know what maples look like in the Autumn :/ I'll miss it on principle , and i hope the BBC hear about it Could the BBC sell the series to the American's ? is that the thought behind it :/

I'm not too sure what the thought process was behind the decision but it would be interesting to know, it might help explain why and make it more understandable.
I will also wait until i have seen at least an episode before passing judgement, and i will more than likely end up watching it for purely the memories i have from being in the US around that time of year.

Not for me, I watch very little TV anyway these days and only watch what really interests me.

It will be interesting to see how people react and what the viewing figures are.

Good , i'm glad to hear that Jan When you think of what the UK has to offer . What i'm not glad to hear is that some posts are racist towards Gillian and that's shocking I hope like Martin that she doesn't look at those sites .

I think they're running out of ideas.......I don't want it to be America, with so many issues facing our wildlife I think we need to keep the impetus here, unless they have some success stories involving wildlife that's been endangered for some or other reason. Something we can learn from...but other than that I want it here, in the UK. I'm sure they can think of something different to show us....Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall managed to present a great programme with so much I'd never seen before and that was only the West country

Oh dear, this could all be a huge mistake by the BBC in commissioning this series not basing it in the UK, we'll see what happens once it starts.

Hugh's programme was excellent . Paula Dave , if they went back to Aigas they'd find more than a series worth without going out of the grounds , and the same goes for half the UK . I still think money has something to do with it . They'll spend a lot going to the US , but think of how much the BBC can then sell it for to the Americans I bet it'd be a better series than any of their commercial channels could produce

Very true Jen, the quality would generally be much better than most things produced in the US. As for the racist comments, there is no place in society for such comments and anyone deemed to have been using racist language in any way, shape or form should be spoken to by the police and prosecuted, they should also be kicked off any social media platform and have their IP address banned, they don't deserve to be allowed anywhere near a computer.

To be honest I rarely watch TV much but this certainly seems a waste of the Beebs resources,I wonder what the budget was for this ?

There's a super programme on BBC4 now ..... from 20.00 to 21.00 South Pacific with Benedict Cumberbach . A superb series I'll wait for Winterwatch , so long as it's from the UK
