Your Common blue, Joe, might be worth sending the photos off to a local branch of butterfly conservation, i'm not sure whether there was any orange present at all in the lunules and it might have been like that from emergence, an odd aberration.

I photographed this butterfly a few days ago but it never opened its wings so I've only got an underside shot. I thought it would be a Common Blue but now realise it isn't. A Brown Argus looks possible but can it be said with certainty that that is what it is/

I'd be confident it is Brown Argus due to these spots being so close together.

Many thanks for the ID of my butterfly. I'd already ruled out Common Blue but I wondered if it could have been any other sort of blue / argus.
It was on a nature reserve and shortly after I photographed it I met the warden doing a butterfly count. I told him I'd seen it and he thought it was most likely a common blue. But maybe I'll email and let him know it was a B.A.

Well worth doing Alan and Brown Argus numbers have been falling of late.

Taken on 8th June at Diss, south Norfolk. I'm not very good at caterpillars - are they Small Tortoiseshell (or perhaps Peacock)?

I would say Small Tortoiseshell, Brian.
