Laurie maybe the warm weather has made him decide to stay a bit longer but not much chance of finding love now if all of the others have flown south.
Latest News
Victor has left - 20 Jun 2018
Victor is in France, having arrived late evening on 17 June. He is using the same area of woodland close to Chateauroux, that Lambert used on his way south.
Trailblazing Thomas - 20 Jun 2018
For a short while it seemed that Thomas might be overtaken by Lambert but this wasn't to be, Thomas is still currently our most southerly Cuckoo, having moved 222km (138 miles) further south. He is on the Mediterranean coast close to Narbonne.
Sylvester moves to the Fens - 20 Jun 2018

It looks like Selborne is finally making his long flight back to Africa. The tagging map (dated 21 June) shows him in France. His brief return to the mainland from the Isle of Wight may have just been a last ditch attempt at finding a mate, but then decided to relinquish the attempt. Safe journey Selborne. It would have been nice if I'd actually seen you. But I got to hear you calling for a friend anyway. You always get a sense of loss when your 'local bird' leaves the area - like you've said goodbye to a close friend. Maybe next year

Well done Selborn,a shame you didn't manage a glimpse of him Laurie, lets hope he returns again safely next spring.
An update on the other cuckoos and it seems Selborne is the one furthest south so far.
Latest News
Sylvester in southern France - 02 Jul 2018
Sylvester stayed a week in northern France before flying the length of the country and making it to the foothills of the Pyrenees, close to Arudy on 29 June. The next day he moved north again and then west. He is currently in wooded farmland close to Castaignos-Souslens in southwest France.
Sherwood U-turns - 02 Jul 2018
Having headed south from Gaillon, north of Paris, Sherwood reached as far south as Riberac, 450km (278 miles) south, before turning northeast and then north and flying another 255km (158 miles). Having flown over 700km (400 miles) he is only 288km (179 miles) from Gaillon. Presumably this u-turn is a response to conditions further south, although the weather looks OK.
Selborne in Spain - 02 Jul 2018
Selborne is currently our most southerly Cuckoo. He only stayed four days in western France before he was off again, flying around the western end of the Pyrenees and into Spain. He is 495km (308 miles) southwest of the mountains and in a straight line, 1,200km (746 miles) from the New Forest, Hampshire. Selborne is following the route he has taken in the last two years and is currently just to the south of Salamanca. In 2016 he left Spain on 9 July but lingered until 23 July in 2017, his next stop is on the southern edge of the Sahara in Mali. It will be interesting to see when he leaves this year.

I noticed yesterday on Twitter that a lot of people were posting photos of juvenile Cuckoos, so there is still a good chance you may still see one.

Maybe the juveniles are staying longer than normal because of the hot weather Dave.
Latest News
Sylvester on the move - 13 Jul 2018
Sylvester has crossed the Pyrenees and is in central Spain. He is to the west of the medieval town of Avila. He has Selborne, a New Forest Cuckoo about 70km (45 miles) to his west and Raymond, a Knepp Estate Cuckoo 200km (128 miles) to his east. It will be interesting to see which of these is the first to head south from here.
PJ on the move - 13 Jul 2018
Having spent the last 6 days on the southern edge of the Pyrenees, PJ has moved. He is now 195km (121 miles) southwest of his previous location, and is to the west of Zaragoza. Might this be the start of his big push south?
Cameron in the Sahel - 13 Jul 2018
The winds do seem to have helped Cameron across the desert. During the afternoon of 12 July his tag showed that he was in the very southeast corner of Niger, close to the border with Burkina Faso. He is 19km (11 miles) north of the Niger River in an area of acacia forest and on the southern edge of the desert.
