John...yours looks like a Snipe fly Jen I'll look into your beetles It seems to spin as it flies, I've just checked out the snipe fly and it seems fly normally, I have a video but cant load it up on here When I saw it I thought straight away of the Snipe fly that was ID'd here for me a few posts back. I just noticed something interesting, what is the long antenna type thing sticking out at the back? On my pic it is on the right and on Johns pic its on the left.

Episyrphus balteatus.
The abdomen markings are distinctive, although they can vary in darkness particularly early and late in the year.

I think the first one may be a rather worn Burnet Companion?

Taken on 29th May at Lackford Lakes, Suffolk. I think it's a Snipe-fly, but with no obvious spotting on the wings, so presumably not scolopaceus

Possibly Ophion luteus for your last one Tim.
Agree on Burnet Companion, i'll also take a look at the other micro moth.
Not sure on those yet Brian and Alan.

Possibly Harpocera thoracica Brian for the Mirid Bug

Brian. Your fly looks like one of the robber flies. Maybe from the Machimus and friends section but they are tricky and more close detail is required.

Very interesting, Brian.
Xanthogramma citrofasciatum hoverfly.
Not exactly rare but rather localised and never common. Do you send reports to I Record or the Hoverfly Recording Scheme?
